Great sturdy jar
I use the jar for Kifir and it works really well. I like the fact that it is really sturdy and easy to wash.

Great
I use my jar for sauerkraut and it has worked really well. After a few batches it pays for itself and is a cheap way of getting probiotics. Very easy to make and much nicer than most shop bought many of which were UHT so probably have no probiotics left.

Works great for kefir
This sort of jar is totally optional for fermentation, I would consider it non-essential. However it is very handy. With kefir making, it eliminates the problem of how to cover it to keep it safe from anything splashing into it, without creating a complete seal so pressure builds up inside. For people who are nervous about leaving a dairy product sitting out for 48 hours on the counter, this makes the whole process feel a bit more sterile as the product is at least properly covered. The glass seems very sturdy and it is easy to wash. I might purchase another for sauerkraut as it keeps fermenting in the fridge and the hissing sound when pressure is released upon opening always scares me a little. I just wonder if it might explode if left too long, and only loosely covering is not an option due to the pungent odour which would seep into other items in the fridge. So this would definitely eliminate those problems. For sourdough starter, I've been using plastic containers for years with no problems so I don't think this item is a must, but I do admit it's handy and looks much nicer on the countertop than a some old recycled plastic yogurt pot.

Don't boil the lid!
This is a nice jar, but the first time I used it I boiled the lid like I usually do with metal lidded jars. It gave the plastic a whitish bloom that won't come off. Weird. Anyway, don't boil the lid - just sterilise it, er, somehow.

Kombucha Perfection!
I planned to try my hand at homemade kombucha fermentation. As a foodie, I have tried a selection of store and artisanal kombucha which is becoming progressively more expensive as the drink becomes fashionable. There is a number of health benefits to drinking kombucha but not enough research has been done into it as yet.I had reservations about fermenting it the traditional way i.e. using a cheese cloth and an elastic band as a makeshift lid on a large glass jar. This didn't sound like the most practical way to reduce airborne contaminants. So I bought this. A thick glassed jar, can withstand hand washing and can be left to soak filled with boiling water to sterilise. A robust airtight silicon ringed lid accompanies this jar.The cleverest part however, is the 'in and out' air flow valves. Both controlled independently to each other. One valve allows gas buildup to expel from the jar. The other, if left unlocked allows fresh air in to reoxegenate for effective kombucha fermentation. The jar comes preassembled and ready to go with a useful pamphlet explaining how to get started. All you have to do is obtain a SCOBY, buy some good tea and sugar and away you go!Please feel free to ask any further questions. I'm happy to help.

Great for Sauerkraut and Ferments
I love making Sauerkraut and this jar makes it so easy. It’s a good size and though I’ve never used a crock, I’ve been told that the one-way release valve lid simplifies the process into “fix it and forget it” without any burping needed.

I use these for making kefir although this was the wrong size so I returned and got the correct size in lakeland, good product if this is the size you need

Working well for kefir
I ordered two of these for making kefir and they’ve been great. I sterilised (carefully) with boiling water the first time and then just wash with warm soapy water each time now. The jars and large and feel sturdy and the lids keep the jars from having to be ‘burped’. Would recommend.
