Suits My Needs
Great quality dehydrator with multiple heating levels. It is designed in layers, allowing you to remove and add as needed, this is a great design and also allows the dehydrator to fit where need be.I will say it dehydrates faster when using less layers. This works well at dehydrating mushrooms or whatever else you can cut into slices. For this price point, you can't go wrong!

Easy to set up and use.
I'm dehydrating mushrooms and beef jerky with this. The Commercial Chef Food Dehydrator has become an essential part of my kitchen arsenal. I'm also making preserved fruits and veggies, this machine does it all with ease. Setting it up was a breeze, and the intuitive controls make it simple to adjust the temperature and drying time to achieve perfect results every time. The 280W power ensures efficient dehydration without consuming excessive energy. I love the spacious design with five drying racks, providing ample room to dehydrate large batches of food. Plus, the slide-out tray makes loading and unloading a breeze, saving me time and hassle. The quality of dried foods produced by this dehydrator is top-notch, retaining nutrients and flavors without any additives or preservatives. It's not just a kitchen appliance; it's a gateway to healthier snacking options for me and my family. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you're in the market for a reliable and efficient food dehydrator, look no further than the Commercial Chef Food Dehydrator. Highly recommended!

Works Well, But Instructions/Description isa Little Deceptive
The description states "This food dryer is suitable for a variety of homemade foods like mushrooms and turkey—as well as snacks like banana chips, fruit roll-ups, and beef jerky." However the manual that comes with the device gives no directions for meat jerky, only for fruits and vegetables. This is likely due to the fact that the max temp on this device is 158F while meats like beef and chicken need to be heated to at least 165F to kill any potential bugs. The description does mention "beef jerky" but the lack of directions for making meat jerky indicates they don't want to be liable if there is an incident due to undercooked meats. I find this a little sneaky. I have made beef jerky in it and after drying in the dehydrator put the meat in a convection oven at 175F for an hour to kill any nasties. I have also tried meat dried in the machine but not placed in the oven and it tasted the same, good, and I didn't get sick, but that may not always be the case. The device works very well, but there is a caveat that if you do get sick from eating undercooked meat jerky they probably cannot be held responsible as they don't provide directions for drying meats. You can take the chance, as I did, or you can take steps, as I also did, to provide a temp of at least 165F when making meat jerky.

Perfect Size for Herbs - Leftovers etc. Runs like a champ!
I have a larger dehydrator but wanted something smaller for a few leftover berries, veggies, small amounts of herbs or small liquids. I got this & have been using it for 5 yrs & it works great. The only thing is with the smaller 9 inch trays - I can't find trays for fruit leather or liquids and finer screens for herbs... so I did cut window screening material & that has worked great... I cut some silicone mats but only for small amts of liquid since there is no "lip"... So that is the ONLY "con" I have for this small one... but I use is quite a bit & it's been running great so far for 5 yrs.

Whiny little POS out of the box...with a nasty rattle.
The media could not be loaded. Update: I'm a tinkerer...so I disassembled this...and was able to make it operable...through two actions. 1. I shaved (dremel-ed) down the plastic guard protecting the motor transformer wires that the fan blade was hitting (but still left enough to protect the transformer wires). and 2. The fan blade has a weak attachment to the motor shaft allowing it to slide down the motor shaft (and hit the guard/ whine the motor). So I put a little piece of electric tape on the motor shaft then reattached the fan blade. This provided a more stable/secure connection between the shaft and fan blade....fixing the issue. I'm keeping the star rating because I/we shouldn't have to fix incompetent design/manufacturing.Orig:I bought this in October to dehydrate fruits, with the prospect of dehydrating vegetables, meats, etc., and maybe even to dehydrate stuff for grind into fruit/veg powders.I finally got around to it, and thought I'd give some banana chips a go. I cut some chunks, put them in the trays, plugged it in, and immediately found out "not today". This thing whines and rattles like the motor is bad and the fan blades are hitting something. Also, I cut some thicker chunks of the bananas...and even with the "raised" setting, I noticed that the space between trays isn't very wide...an inch maybe. So since I waited so long to use this, I'm beyond the return window and am just out the $40, not to mention the landfill factor. So I'd choose another brand/product if I were you. So disappointing.
