Q: has anyone used this with flake food?

Hello, Flakes can be used too, for sure. Also, when needed, it can be replaced with a "window" with a larger opening. Adjust the amount of food before installing the appliance on the aquarium. Q: How many days can you program this for?

It can be programmed for as long as you want. You have to put food into the machine. It will hold about a month’s worth of food - it all depends on how many fish you have in the tank of course. You set the tiny door opening if you want a lot of food or just a little amount. And how many times to drop food throughout the day or you can do just once daily. Takes some practice though to get it just right before you leave on a vacation.

Q: Does this work with a covered aquarium?

You will need to have an opening in the top of the aquarium as this drops food from the top into the tank. We have two covers, large and small, covering the top of the tank. We moved the small cover over a bit to allow the feeder to drop food into the tank. Not a big deal, but does cause a bit of evaporation of water from the tank. However, if you can figure out the mounting and create an opening for the food, it works great.

Q: Can it be set to go off once every 3 days?

Thanks for your question, It is not possible to switch off the device once every 3 days. What you can do: 1. Schedule feeding every day 1-3 times. (When each feeding can be set the number of rounds of the barrel - up to 3 = a total of up to 9 rounds of feedings per day) 2. You can, once every three days, close the "window".
