Finally found the ONE that works, except....
Tried soft sleeve first, support was too soft. Complex and pricey bilateral brace was too hard, this one seemed to be just right, until I walked 100 feet, and had to stop and pull it up. Walked one (small town) block, had to stop 4 times to pull it up. WHY HAVE YOU PEOPLE NOT PUT THE SILICONE SQUIGGLES (which make it anti-slip) ON THE INSIDE OF THESE LIKE ALL THE CRAPPIER BRACES HAVE? Great price point, professional looking, very well made and durable, with rigid (metal) support inserts and good compression. It has upper and lower velcro straps, (with rubber-like coating at the end), which I tightened to within a millimeter of threat of gangrene, but which sadly still didn't keep it in place. I think I'm going to keep it, because I tried it with a neoprene elastic support sleeve under it (Stable brand) and that support sleeve does have the grippy silicone squiggles inside. That seems to be working for now. It is easy to put on and take off, has handy finger pockets on each side that make it easy to pull up, lightweight and comfortable once I didn't have to cinch the velcro so tight. You're still going to want to wear some fairly loose/wide leg pants if you don't want it to be obvious you're wearing it, however, it is nice looking enough to wear with shorts and not look gastly, lol. I'mma hold that 5th star hostage until ya'll put the grippy stuff on the inside tho. Update: 3 weeks plus 4 days later. Have worn daily since it arrived, and now, even with neoprene sleeve brace is slipping down and having to be pulled up. Possibly, it is the sleeve that has become stretched and maybe not this brace, but wanted to update. It's not much of a problem around the house, but if exercising and trying to keep moving, it would be an issue.

Instant relief
I have a small tear, right knee of the medial menicus. Those of you who have suffered this injury, know how bad it can hurt. I have decided on the non evasive remedies available to avoid surgery. My insurance co-pay for a medical device was...(ok this is the hard part of writing this review. I so want to jump up and down on a soap box about the OBAMACARE, but will leave it at this: last year this would have been covered 100% by the same insurance that I have now.) was unbelievably rediculous. I was cheaper to buy this on my own than through my insurance. The moment I slipped it on, (looks like it comes apart but it doesn't. You place your foot through the hole and adjust it so that the top of your knee cap, patella for those of you in sports medicine..lol) and adjusted the tension straps to the amount of compression I knee was not cutting off the circulation to my foot there was complete AND INSTANTANEOUS RELIEF from the pain associated with this injury. I have had this brace on for aproximately 1.5 hrs now and can tell you that it does indeed retain the heat from the area it covers, which in my case is about four inches about my patella to about four inches below it.As one reviewer, Bleudenim I believe it was said: they do run big. That is a good thing as far as I am concerned. Being 6' 245lbs it is sometimes hard to find OTC things that fit you. I fall into the catagory of "One Size fits All" NO IT DOESN'T crowd. So I was happy that the XXLL was ineed XXLL.It is no wonder McDavid's website can boast: " McDavid products top the recommendation lists of pro athletes, sports medicine professionals and athletic trainers. Worth the price and more!

DIY skills needed if unlucky
The stability and pain relief is great, but with some drawbacks. Due to the design of the pockets the springs are snug fit into, the seams on the bottom pocket have already given out. It hasn't even been 6 months yet, and it seems it's already falling apart, but thankfully if you know a bit of sowing or jarry rigging you should be fine? That design decision has to get looked over and redone in my opinion. Maybe I was unlucky with it's production, but I don't think I'll buy this one again.

It works!
McDavid 422 Knee Brace: I am extremely happy. I was told it would arrive between the 16th and 20th and it came on 10th! I know that may not seem like a big deal, but usually that has meant it wouldn't get here until the 13th at the earliest. So glad it came, because walking has been very painful due to a bad fall onto my inner knees. Don't ask! LOL! Just tried it on 20 minutes ago and it seems to give great support and my leg isn't hurting anymore, at the moment. As others have said, the sizing chart was way off and I noticed it has now been removed. My circumstance measured 17" so I ordered the XL, which was the low # on the previous chart. I believe it had said XL was 17" - 20". It fits snugly without use of the Velcro straps. I am wearing it over my leggings because I read the material, neoprene, would get uncomfortable against my skin. I also read how some said the brace loosened up with use. I'm thinking I should be fine if and when mine needs tightening, I could tighten. I AM VERY happy with my purchase! Here's what the box says regarding sizing,:S: 13" - 14"M: 14" - 15"16L: 15" - !6"XL : 16" _ 17 1/2"2XL : 17 1/2" - 19"
