There are generally four solvents of decaffeination: water, ethyl acetate, carbon dioxide, and dichloromethane. If you go to the Pod Merchant web site and read POD Cast # 25, you will get the full explanation. The majority of coffee decaffeination uses either a non-toxic solvent (water, CO2), a relatively non-toxic solvent (ethyl acetate), or the chemical dichloromethane, which is certain to evaporate before consumption, and at any rate, by law is held to very low concentrations in coffee roasted in Italy. I called on this brand and the coffee is decaffeinated in Italy before shipment by the ethyl acetate method.

Q: will this work in my Caffe Gagia Espresso Machine?

I have a Breville, the coffee came out like tea with the pods. I first though it was my maker, then the cold water. Finally i cjanged back to my grounds. The pods filter seems to be to strong to process the coffee. Not sure about your machine. It was too late to return. Lost 100.00 for reg and decaf. Hope this helps in making a decision.
