J-B Weld 8276 KwikWeld Quick Setting Steel Reinforced Epoxy - Dark Grey 2 oz

I have a nice drinking cup i use for my tea. it's aluminum, and 1 liter. I thickened the handle to include a wood and leather grip, and have been happily sipping tea for years with it. The other day I accidentally knocked it off the counter and onto the floor. And the top part or the handle popped loose.Since i don't own an aluminum spot welder, I went looking for an epoxy that handled both heat, and aluminum well. I settled on this product as being something simple, easily mixed, easily applied and purported to be able to do the job.This was not my first rodeo with epoxies. I've been using them for years. But it was my first with aluminum, which is often tricky to deal with due to the oxidation layer creating a weaker bond. Preparation was necessary, which mostly meant sanding the crap out of the surfaces being bound. That removes the oxidized aluminum and gives an otherwise polished surface some roughness for the epoxy to grip.Following the instructions, and knowing about how much I'd need, I mixed an appropriate amount, applied it to the surfaces, then used a couple of rubber bands to hold it in place. It began to set fairly quickly, so if you do use it, be ready to apply it as soon as it's mixed. It says it's a 6 minute work time, and I'd say it's probably closer to 5. Having had epoxies set up quickly, I was ready for that possibility.I let it cure overnight, and in the morning, I had my tea as usual.The bond itself is fairly secure, with no apparent wiggle. The epoxy had a slightly soft texture at first as it set, but over time that's hardened up nicely. So, if you have aluminum you need bonded, I know this will work well, with the proper prep and after waiting the full cure time before messing with it. Knowing HOW to use an epoxy is most of the battle, so follow the steps and give yourself time for things to set and you'll love this stuff.

I've used the regular J-B Weld before and it always does the trick so I thought I'd finally try the "Kwik" formula. I needed to repair some spectacles from a company who mistakenly call themselves America's Best (yet again). One pair had a lens that just wouldn't stay put, and now the frame had snapped on the 2nd pair. Mission accomplished. Dried darker than I remember regular Weld... wah - close enough. And plenty left for the inevitable next repairs. Oh, the Kwik bonded securely to the plastic lenses as well as the crappily painted frames.Same as classic: highly forgiving mix ratio, bonds like crazyDifferent from classic?: dries the color of (glossy) charcoal, softer feel when dry

I have used this product to fix many rings that i have bought, it works great when the weld comes loose on some of my statement jewelry that i wear. the repairs have lasted for years on some of my rings

Works as described. I cleaned and put back two aluminum pieces and the result was a very strong weld after the cure time. Let it cure before testing or “messing with it”. It’s not a super glue cure time.

I am retired and always tinkering with new projects and need adhesives a few times a month and this is my go-to stuff.I use disposable 30CC mixing cups (available here on Amazon) and reusable silicone stir sticks (also available here). I never actually measure the two parts, just sort of eyeball the amounts, and have never messed up the ratio. You can leave a little in the cup to see when it's fully cured. Use a little dab to secure an item in place or smear it all over to make it STAY. In 6 minutes or so, it gets firm and sort of hard-rubbery. I give it 24 hours to fully cure and then it's nice and hard. And shiny ultra-dark grey. Prep is a must, lightly scratching shiny or smooth surfaces. Always use alcohol. I use 70% medical pads by the bulk for this, but 90%+ would be better. I love this epoxy so much that when I am down to one package I order another as a backup just in case Amazon is temporarily sold out. About a month ago one of the hardener tubes had a tiny leak and my fingers got a little sticky, but that did not detract from the quality of this stuff.Once again, as long as you prep the surface properly, this is the best you can buy. 5 stars easy. Works on car/truck projects as well, just degrease AND use alcohol. (don't use this on hi-temp things... there are epoxies made just for that)P.S. You know how a cell phone charging cradle slips around on your night stand? A couple of small dabs of this epoxy on the bottom solves that problem.
