Christian Apologetics Paperback – May 15, 2013

If there was a list of the top living Christian Apologists in the world today, Dr. Norman Geisler's name would undoubtedly sit at or near the top of the list. The second edition of "Christian Apologetics" takes a classical approach to the defense of the Christian Faith. Dr. Geisler breaks down the the presentation of the book in three parts, beginning with Methodology which examines agnosticism, rationalism, fideism, experientialism, evidentialism, pragmatism, combinationalism, ending in formulating a test for truth.In part 2, the various religious groups are examined and tested for proofs of their claims, followed by part 3 which focuses on Christian Apologetics and the truth claims of Christianity.This book is not casual reading, it goes deeply into the subject matter, but for the individual who puts forth the effort, the information contained in it, can be extremely valuable in practical ministry as well as for an individual struggling with their own faith.For people who have no experience with philosophy in general, may find Dr. Geisler's book, "Introduction to Philosophy" useful even though it is now fairly dated. Also, people trying to solve ethical issues, should find his book, "Christian Ethics" very informative and for the person seeking lighter reading and more evidentiary, should find his book, "When Skeptics Ask: A Handbook of Christian Evidences" an enjoyable read.

Must buy very helpful and I have learned so much

Just received, so haven't had the time to read much in detail, but I'm very impressed with the general organization of topic information and the clarity of the textual presentation. This will make it much easier to read and understand going forward.

This book on "Christian Apologetics" by Norman L. Geisler is a excellent book it challenges you as a strong Christian believer (God elect) in biblical scripture against other worldwide faiths I highly recommend it for those like myself that going through seminary and pursuing a life in ministry.(Service to God)

DR. GEISLER IS THE MASTER OF TODAY'S APOLOGISTS. HE DESERVES -- & I BELIEVE HE HAS --THE ULTIMATE RESPECT IN HIS FIELD. HE MAKES DEEP AND INTRICATE THOUGHTS AND ARGUMENTS UNDERSTANDABLE TO BEGINNING STUDENTS. EVERYONE FROM THE MOST DEVOUT CHRISTIAN SCHOLAR TO THE MOST HARDENED ATHEIST SHOULD READ THIS.

I'm about halfway through reading this book and although it does mention some terms that are new to me, I have found this book to be very useful to me in framing my personal "Apologetics" within a philosophical framework.

This is better defined though as "A Christian Apologetics concerning worldivews" which is an important and necessary knowledge for any apologist.Part 1: 7/10Part 2: 8/10Part 3: 10/10 worth buying the book, it is a concise approach to the claims and evidence of Christianity.First, this is an attempt to cover all of the basic tenants dealt with in apologetics and this work was undertaken with a lot of care, covers a great amount of ground concerning the defense of a Christian worldview. I have several comments to make. I did learn quite a lot, but for such a large piece of work the content wasn't what I expected. I have read introductions to philosophy that were more helpful but less wide reaching. The book is divided into 3 parts and the 1st part is really the area I feel needs revising. It covers methodology used to make truth claims. The 2nd considers world views that give direction and a outline to color in with your truth claims. The 3rd was just an overview of basically why christianity vs. other theistic religions. I love the idea of this book almost as the standard for Apologetics but I found a lot more wanting in it than I first imagined.Pros-It deals with a wide number of opposing worldviews.-It cites numerous persons and gives an understanding of how to refute the most common objections in history made of Christianity and Theism.-Geisler is very logically sound and treats everything he approaches with depth, sometimes making himself clear by repeating important things.-The subjects specifically covered such as Agnosticism, Rationalism, Deism, Finite Godism and Pantheism were more helpful than I imagined they would be.-Very accurate, honest and sincere. He did not write this for fun or to tickle anyones fancy. It is a purely academic book.Cons-Some of the writing can become very meaningless and from chapters 3-6 I felt like I had learned absolutely nothing because it focused so directly on interpreting a singular persons objections to theism more so than defining specifically there position regarding what is truth, God, and the like. Part 2 where he approaches worldivews was much more helpful in its own task because it didnt do that.-I feel as though the topics Atheism and Theism aren't treated full enough. He didn't want to spend too much more time on them than the other chapters but it really felt necessary that he should.-At its core, it is a pure philosphical approach. Not even a very good one though. Sort of surprised by that, I also simply expected more of a synthesis from Geisler. Someone like R.C Sproul is even more of a philosopher at heart than Geisler but does not allow it to swallow up his defense of Christianity. Both being classical apologists.-It does not consider the Bible's own testimony to how we should do apologetics, in fact it might not even be quoted until the 3rd part of the book. He did that to be philosophically consistent I get it but this would be important if it is a standard textbook for Apologetics teaching Christians, we’re not teaching non-Christians how to defend Christianity! Lol I highly doubt any of them would read this & for their situations there are better books for that.Still, you will be hard-pressed to find another person put this much information together on this topic, into one single book that is. As far as I know there isn't another right now. Again, I could probably see myself recommend this book to someone looking for this kind of work but it could definitely improve. Highlighted in the photos are chapters that I felt it would be important to read again at a later date

This book is very well written and is not overly technical. It would be as beneficial to a lay person as it would be for a seminary student. There is plenty of meat in this book for those wanted to expand their knowledge of Christian Apologetics.
