Ludlum At His Hilarious Best

What did I like most anout this book? At least 327 laughs* in it! It was hilarious! Had it been serious, it would have been horrible. But wasn’t—it was preposterous, it was silly, it was funny!!What did not like about it? Funny as it was, it was slow to develop. Real action on the main plot line didn’t start for almost 300 pages. But don’t let that deter you—the story was fantastic (note the pun there).Another point on the plus side is the excellent Character development. it was very well done.I recommend this to all Ludlum fans or those who wannabe.P.S. This was at least my second (maybe third) read. And I am about to start my second or third read of The Road To Omaha.*327 Sound like an odd number?. It’s AT LEAST one per page.

Wonderfully crafted storyline with unforgettable characters

Loved “The Hawk”, “The May-Jor” (Devereaux), all “the girls”, Pope Bombalini and his look-alike cousin Francesco, the singer, even the secondary characters, Hawkins’ henchmen and the four bribery victims of Hawkins’ scheme. Each character so vivid you could conjure his or her image. Plus, humor on every page! Now I can read The Road To Omaha!

If you are looking for a good, easy, light and funny divesion......

This is a very good read for someone looking for light and funny diversion. One has to keep in mind it was written in early 1980's and some of the information and details no longer fit in our world. It is more related to M*A*S*H in terms of the type of humor and approach to story telling. It could be interpreted as irreverent in some ways and therefore, some readers may find the depiction of the Pope offensive.

A character you won't forget

He had a plan that involved many characters. The plot seems unreasonable but it takes you on an amusing ride right up until the last line. Fun reading with a crazy guide.

The Hawk is awsome!

Ludlum spins a hailarious tale of suspense, intrugue and rediculous situations. "The Hawk" is a larger than life character who is a little more "hands on" than Army Generals are today. His exploitation of a young Boston lawyer to do his bidding in his quest for revenge for being cashired from the Army by a bunch of "Pricky Shits" in the Pentagon. "The Hawk's" use of his spectacular ex wives to motivate our lawyer in providing the leagalese and funding for the insane idea you can kidnap the Pope, and get away with it, is a most entertaining romp.

Outrageously funny

Reminds me of Catch 22 humor. Tongue in cheek, great characters, well thought plotting/organizing/writing. Easy read, amusing plot, hysterically funny implementation.

Great book. Full of characters

Great book. Full of characters...real characters & Ludlum does a wonderful job of developing each one. There were times when I laughed loud out while reading this book. Because of the author's attention to detail it was easy to visualize each scene; like watching a movie. I highly recommend this book to all Ludlum fans & anyone who enjoys a book with a great plot, unforgettable characters & chuckling to oneself!

The Road to Gandalfo

It is funny, has quite a plot and it made me wonder how far this plot would be from the real thing. Other than that, I can't really add to this and yes, I would recommend it for off-the-wall humour - a good natured jab at the prior papal "humbleness" - a true humbleness that has been resurrected by the current pope. And while the book is funny, it also made the think about the quantity of spirituality is in our lives; why, when all religions have their respective Supreme Being, why are their religious wars?So before I get on a philosophical bent, the summary of my review is humour and thought provoking Read it.

An unusually humorous novel from a fantastic author. Not only does Ludlum write with his usual passion for action, but he also makes you laugh.
