I carry one around in my pocket for my daily to-do list, schedule, daily thoughts, plus somewhere to jot down quick notes that I don't want to forget. I use two facing pages per day, so I get about 3+ weeks from each book. The paper is surprisingly good. I don't use a fountain pen - just normal ballpoint and gel pens. I'm not seeing any bleed-through and minimal ghosting. The covers are just right in terms of being sturdy, but not too thick. And the sewn binding just seems nicer than staples. Thumbs up.

Very handy to slip in pocket for a quick note, observation or reminder anywhere, anytime NOT requiring messing with some electronic device. It’s simple, fairly foolproof (e.g. have to have a pen obviously). They are a little flimsy and won’t take getting wet. And very cheap.

good for the price, I wish they had water resistant pages that would be even better as I work on a boat. The stitching is what i wanted for durability, staples just fall apart if you keep it in your back pocket.

This 12-pack of XYark Small Pocket Journals represents an excellent alternative to higher-priced 3.5 x 5.5 inch notebooks such as Field Notes notebooks or pocket Moleskine Cahier Journals. Although I would personally prefer ruled lines that extend all of the way across the pages and a slightly narrower line spacing, these journals have a nice cream colored paper that stands up to any kind of pen you want to use, including fountain pens. I will probably buy more of these when I use up my first 12-pack unless I find a comparably-priced alternative with narrower lines for my very small handwriting.Each notebook is basically 15 sheets of 7 x 5.5 inch cream-colored paper with rounded corners, sewn to a heavy black paper cover and then folded in half and trimmed so the edges all line up, which forms a notebook with 30 pages each measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches. With most pens, you could write on both sides, resulting in 60 sides of a page for writing on in each notebook. The pages are college-ruled (7mm spacing), and as shown in the photos, the ruling leaves blank margins on all four edges of the page. Specification is 80 GSM (29.5 lb) paper, although to me the paper actually feels about the same weight as 20 lb copy paper, but with a bit smoother finish. The heavy paper cover should stand up to moderate handling unless you get it wet, although I usually use leather or plastic journal covers to protect the notebooks that I am actively using.I tested a variety of pens and inks with these notebooks. With ballpoint or gel inks, there was zero bleed through and minimal ghosting even with bold points. With my usual "EDC" Zebra F-301 Compact pen with "hacked" Pilot Acroball 0.7mm point refill, if I didn't press too hard when writing, it is hard to tell there is something written on the other side. With highlighters, also zero bleed through and no detectable ghosting. For my fountain pen tests, I used a vintage Sheaffer Fineline with 341 Fine point and a newer Sheaffer Prelude with Extra Fine point, both with Diamine Grape ink, which I understand is a fairly wet ink. With the fountain pens, no bleed through, virtually no feathering, and only light ghosting unless I pressed too hard or deliberately wrote more densely. While the paper in these notebooks isn't quite as fountain pen friendly as premium paper like Rhodia and I wouldn't write on both sides of a page with a fountain pen, these XYark Small Pocket Journals are perfectly usable with fountain pen, ballpoint or gel ink.
