Prince FA1000-00 Filter Head, Cast Aluminum, No Bypass Spring, 20 gpm, 3/4" NPT Female

It worked perfectly for my application.I have an old tractor with the hydraulic fluid filter/screen inside the gearbox. (The Transmission, as well as the loader and PTO, get the fluid from the same place) A new screen was available but it commanded a high price. Plus it was a real bear to take out.I purchased the filter head, two 3/4 fittings, a 3/4 ID oil compatible hose, and an external oil filter for half the price of the factory unit.The only thing I had to do was cut a portion of the old intake line leading to the pump, fab a bracket for the head, Slide the hoses on, clamp them. And I was good to go.Now I have an external filter for maintenance. That's less labor intensive to change and far less expensive than the OEM set up.

This Prince FA1000-00 cast aluminum filter head with no bypass valve arrived with a poorly seated metal crimp type hole plug of the type used to seal holes in breaker boxes etc. There was no gasket or seal which means contaminated fluid could bypass the filter element. I don't know if this was a product defect due to design or manufacturing issues. It was definitely poor quality. In a unit intended to be operated without a bypass valve there was no need to machine a bypass valve hole through the casting in the first place.FYI- These 20GPM max flow units have a 1"-12TPI male canister thread and 3/4"-14 NPTF ports. The mounting holes are 1.5" apart and tapped for 1/4-20 mounting screws. Many filters are available to fit from various manufacturers like the Wix #51259 10micron element, Prince FA10 10micron element, Prince FA150 150micron element. Various bypass valve pressure options; None/5/15/25PSI are available. They are also available with various gauge ports drilled and tapped 1/8"-27 NPTF.

Not much to say, the part worked, continues to work was/si the correct price range for something of this nature. THe only improvement I would suggest if any would be that prince make the casting at the top where the attachment bolts go in a little beefier and then bore it out for larger bolts. the small bolts it uses work, but bigger would be easier to manage as the small ones are a pita to get a grip on when you have hydraulic oil on your hands.
