Worked beautifully on my 2016 Frontier. Can't beat the price. Good design and parts quality. Only time will tell if the strut holds up over the long term, but so far it works great.Only problem I had was getting the large bolt to thread back into the tailgate without cross-threading, since there was a little spring tension in the truck's bracket. I finally took out the bracket's second bolt to relieve the tension and it went right in. Entire job only took me about 30 minutes.

I bought this item back in May 24, I had it just under 5 months. It's already broken. The silver metal fork that provides support against the bed of the truck got bent. The protective plastic came off and was scratching the paint. It's a waste of money. Do not buy it.

No more of having my friends leave the opening of my tailgate to gravity with the slam-stop finish! Law of the universe: “You CANNOT control people but you CAN control the environment. In this case, doesn’t matter how many times I ask, others open the latch and let gravity have its way with my tailgate. This device keeps gravity in check and allows my tailgate to quietly, slowly, gently reach its resting place. Money well spent. Couple of good installation videos online make installation idiot-proof. Showed up quickly per usual for that little online boutique retailer Amazon. 10/10. Buy, install, let your thoughtless friends and idiot family open your tailgate without stress

I installed this on my 2019 Nissan Frontier, drivers side of the gate. It was very easy to install, with one error in the instructions. The top cable bolt is not a 13mm, but rather a 12mm. Also, the stainless steel clip that prevents the piston from coming off the post is very loose, as previous reviewers have stated. As you can see in my photos, I placed a nylon wire tie around it to prevent it from popping off. I did not give it 4 stars. It is Chinese made, with what appears to be poorly made welds on the piston ends. I suspect its life will be shorter than I would like. Hopefully I am wrong. I had been concerned the clearances would be too tight; however, there is plenty of clearance for all the parts.

Installs easily enough. Works okay. However, I wouldn't recommend buying this.FYI: I have a 2019 Nissan Frontier. I had this on my tailgate for about 4 weeks before it failed2 problems here- the clip that's used to keep the piston attached to the top bolt does not work very well at all. It would frequently pop off when closing the tail gate, which meant that the piston would come off as well, requiring removal and reinstall of the whole assembly.I used a zip-tie to hold the clip in place but the clip was still not strong enough to prevent the piston from popping off. I finally added a large washer which corrected the problem (see pic). Such a simple solution, I'm surprised this isn't part of the install to begin with.- Piston is too stiff. Tailgate opens slowly - too slowly. This means closing is more difficult than without the piston. Eventually, the bottom hinge bracket failed from the strain of repeatedly opening/closing the tailgate (see other pic)Not sure what I'm going to do here, possibly try to reinforce the hinge bracket. In the meantime, I've removed the assembly and I'm back to the original set up.I do not recommend buying this item.

Excellent product...easy to install. Only had one problem with a replacement bolt that was sent to install in place of a factory bolt at the lower edge of the tailgate. I simply reinstalled the OEM Bolt and in my case with my 2012 Nissan pickup did not seem to cause any problem with clearance when closing the tailgate.Product works really well and eases the tailgate down nicely.Keith

This is the second one we purchased, and it broke at exactly the same time right after the return window was over…. Gave it a benefit of the doubt the first time, but not good quality
