Q: what size is the thread ???

There is no thread that you would screw an old fashioned butterfly nut onto, instead you push the sleeve onto the roller, so it’s held on by tight compression. Hope this makes sense.

Q: is this ok for semi-smooth masonry?

Just used a Harris brush to put Masonry paint on cracked/damaged kitchen wall (not painted for 40 odd years!), was okay. Also used one outside on brickwork, concrete flagstones and reinforced concrete wall. Might need to use a Deep Pile Paint Roller and extension pole as well, to reach high and awkward areas (or cover rough Artexed ceilings!)

It’s brilliant on gloss of emulsion.

Q: Is this okay to use with Shellac based primer?

Yes I should think so - depends on what and where you are applying the shellac - a brush might be more effective
