OneOdio Studio Wireless M: Excellent sound, extraordinary battery, annoying zero-point noise

OneOndio Studio Wireless M (hereafter Wireless M) delivers very good clarity. It’s minimal button actions function as advertised - not a small feat. I’m pleasantly surprised by its functional mic on wireless mode, too. Did I mention excellent play time? Other than overemphasis in low frequencies, my main complaint is a bad zero-point noise in wireless mode. The headband and ear cups are also less than comfortable.I bought Wireless M based on reviews here on Amazon as another attempt to replace my aging Modern Portable HiFi Elite Super 66 (hereafter Super 66). Sound balance and clarity are still the primary consideration. This time, I found an even better recording of Smetana’s Vltava (The Moldau): Version 1960 of Berlin Philharmonic/Ferenc Fricsay in a compilation titled “Complete Recordings on Deutsche Grammophon - Vol 1”. (Vol 2 of the same collection contains an earlier recording by the same performers that is not as clear in my opinion. The same recording is included in another Deutsche Grammophon album, but the file in Apple music is also not good.)In clarity, Wireless M stood between Super 66 and Anker Soundcore Life Q20 (hereafter Q20). As the full orchestra is playing, each soft triangle feels grounded with no drift. The strings are very layered. When trombones are in full power, Super 66 tends to lose some clarity in low frequencies. Not Wireless M. The entire orchestra remains solid and layered. Bass is a little too heavy, although not as bad as suggested by the printed frequency response curve. (Surprisingly, after getting rid of the “bass boosted” mode, Q20 came out very balanced. I’ll write about that in my update for it. Wireless M doesn’t have this control.)The same tests were repeated while wired directly to MacBook Pro. I couldn’t hear obvious differences in Wireless M. (While this also held true for Super 66, Q20’s sounds turned a lot muddier, to my great surprise.)One big drawback of Wireless M’s wireless mode is a small noise that sounds like a faint gutter noise. Not only is this annoying in the night, but it also degrades music in really quiet segments.Mechanically, Wireless M’s head band is reenforced by metal in most load bearing parts, unlike Q20’s. But the swivel fork is all plastic. I suspect that this will be the part to eventually break. The mechanism is also a tad too swiveling for my taste. At first, I had to fiddle quite a bit in order to put it on. To me, there is no practical use of two 360º actions except they look cool. (Or as a fidget toy.) In this regard, I really respect Super 66’s very clever design that does away from the Y-fork while delivering a meaningful degrees of freedom. This way, almost every part of the mechanism is reenforced with metal while keeping cost down. (Metal reduces fatigue in plastics, thus improves usable life.)The headband came very tight. While it loosens up as I use it more, it still feels too tight after a month of frequent use. (My head is not wide at all.) The upside is better isolation than Super 66. (Both without active NR.) However, Wireless M’s ear cups are not as comfortable as Q20’s (whose airways are also tight). My largish earlobes constantly feel pressure from them even though Wireless M’s speakers have a larger diameter. As advertised, Wireless M has really good battery time if you use wireless a lot. The shipped charge lasted a full three weeks till it began to beep warnings. I cannot say how many hours but it felt like a lot because on most days I use it more than a couple hours. Anyway, unless you plan to drain the battery every cycle, this battery far exceeds my expectations. Also as advertised, Wireless M’s Bluetooth controls are minimal: power, volume up, volume down. Each does just one thing. (OK, not completely true. Power button double as “stop/continue” toggle.) I have tried multifunction controls from Modern Portable and Soundcore. They don’t work reliably because my gestures/press sequences are not precise when the phone is on my head. And it is a burden to memorize gestures. (Even extra physical buttons are not helpful when you cannot see them.) So, I agree with OneOdio: simple and reliable.Despite the simplicity, the only dual-purpose button, the power button can reliably invoke Siri (when iPhone is so configured) reliably. Other Bluetooth headphones I used were never reliable with any secondary function. (I only wish that they adopted the large flat buttons on the back that Super 66 used. Fishing for small buttons under your ear is no fun.)Another pleasant surprise is Wireless M’s wireless mic: it actually works! In an early test with a buddy with whom I can freely ask questions, I was reassured that I “sounded normal”. Such relief! This sounds basic but both Super 66 and Q20 failed miserably. Their microphones merely add cost. Very time I received (or made) a call, or joined a Zoom meeting, I had to power down the headset lest it inadvertently made my voice intelligible. Not Wireless M. I have since kept the headset on during many calls like a “normal” person. Not a gamer myself, I did not test any gaming experience, although I can confirm that the inline mic, attenuator, and start/stop control work on MacBook. I am pretty sure it is acoustically, mechanically, and electronically identical to Studio Wireless(Y80B). The only difference seems to be color and the extra accessory. In fact, Wireless M's Bluetooth identity is just Studio Wireless. In summary, Wireless M is an excellent value for sound quality, working wireless mic, and exceedingly long battery life. But the zero-point noise is really annoying. And the headband + ear cups are not very comfortable.

INCREDIBLE sound, and Utility. And not "just for the price".

First, let's get something straight. Even though these sound amazing, we are not competing with the heavily marketed, "premium segment" of the ATH-M50, etc.. I could type forever about how good these are, but I'm just going to give pro's and cons. I just bought Fidelio's for $150 and while they had a good build quality, they were ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE to these in comparison. I've had these now for 2 months and used them everyday for 5+ hours.Pros:Incredible bass. If you want Beats, without any muffledness, these are for you.High sensitivity and power handling. 1600mW handling is more than ATH-M-50 at a higher DB (sensitivity) 110±3dB which means the driver is also more efficient.REAL sound for movies. Sub bass is clear, even at higher volumes.I am a bass player and these are now my #1 for practicing with my DAW through an interface. After they came and without charging them, they lasted 2 weeks before a recharge at 5+ hours a days- I can confirm the 110hr Bluetooth time is legit.A neat trick - you can turn both the cups so the speakers face up and they will sit perfectly and while not ideal, can be used as a speakerphone.Being able to turn the cups is cool, you can improve comfort or turn them enough where you can hear them well, but they are off your ear.Can be used for gaming with the mic - and the bass really hits for gunshots, etc.Oh, and it can be paired to 2 different devices at once! So from my PC to my phone, I never have to turn Bluetooth on or off, it just connects without any issue. On headset controls work well.Just sounds good.Cons:Cups are a tad small, they still fit over my ears on my big head but a little bigger would be nicer.Cup lining is fine but could also be more comfortable. The sound is so good, I'd consider after market pads.At times, "untangling" the cups can a tad annoying, but these are not supposed to be resident studio phones only. Look at the utility, BT, wireless, mic for gaming, operate wired, these can do it ALL.Conclusion:The money spent to develop these seems like it went to the sound over the build quality. It's clear to me the driver is very high quality and the sacrifice for the cost resides in the build quality. It's fine if you take care of them though. And plastic housing isn't bad, it's lighter than metal and many times has much better sonic qualities.I've been searching for high quality headphones for many years now and believe it or not, these have been the best at ANY price, including many other brands at even 4x the price. Not kidding.

Decent Xbox Gaming Headset and Multifunctional Use as Bluetooth Over Ear Headphones

i originally bought this as a headset for gaming and it worked very well. it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack which can get headphone sound out of the Xbox one controller (likely new Xbox as well) and it can also use the inline boom mic as a voice communication. These features work very well. As a bonus this also has good connectivity to most blue tooth devices, like iPhone's and MacBooks, and has an insane battery life. I literally go weeks without charging this device and use it daily for many hours at medium volume. That being said it has a passable audio quality. When connecting it has a high pitched hum, not a deal breaker but slightly annoying. In addition, close by people do not overhear the audio on 1/3 or less settings. It connects readily and even when connected it has moderately good quality at best. But the extremely good battery life and dual functionality as a gaming headset makes this an every day device in my life. I received this for about 35 bucks and feel like it was well worth the money for a cheap headset, but not anything that blows my mind.
